Introducing: The Encore Audio Video Podcast
Explore Key Home Automation Topics from Encore Audio Video’s Podcast
Jeff Grove and Clark von Trotha, system designers at Encore Audio Video, had the pleasure of chatting with Luke Anderson on the Northwest Business radio show. The podcast addressed some important topics in home automation and audio-video equipment—questions that clients in Portland, WA, and the surrounding areas commonly ask.
So, in this post, we thought we’d share a brief overview of the conversation and the trends we see in the industry. If you’re curious about home automation or considering integrating the latest technology to make your home smart, you’ll find the podcast introduction here.

Home Automation: A Simplified Solution
Both Grove and von Trotha have been in the AV and home automation industry for over 20 years. They’ve witnessed tremendous changes too. Today, everything is network-based, from streaming Netflix and Pandora to home appliances connected to the internet. They went into home automation with an interest in simplifying how their clients connect with and control technology.
Some people have apps on their smartphones that control all the connected devices separately. For example, one person may have one for streaming music and another for controlling home lighting. Instead of having five or six apps, their solution consists of one smart home automation platform that controls everything, including lighting, security, audio, video, irrigation, climate, and much more.
Tap the “Good Night” button on an in-wall keypad, and it turns the whole smart home off. Tap the “Vacation Mode” icon on a touchscreen or smartphone app, and the home looks occupied while you're away, turning the lights and the TV on and off. So you don't have to walk into a dark house, program the lights to turn on when you pull into the driveway and your favorite playlist to start streaming through your home. You can also say, "Alexa, I'm home," and the command will turn on the lights and music or whatever events are important to the homeowner and their family.
The Initial Meeting
During the initial meeting and complimentary consultation, the experts at Encore Audio Video make sure that the people using the system are present, so we can understand what different automation solutions are important to each family member. For example, one family member may want a TV that turns into a mirror when not in use, while another wants a whole-home audio system and invisible speakers installed in the wall.
An outdoor entertainment area may be important to one person, while indoor lighting that mimics the light of the sun is important to another. There are almost limitless solutions to consider. We also recommend a visit to our showroom, where you can experience home automation and high-performance audio and video firsthand, picking out what you want to include in your smart home.
At Encore Audio Video, we specialize in creating customized smart homes that are effortless to control and offer the best solutions in today’s audio-video market. To learn more about home automation or to schedule a complimentary consultation, contact Encore Audio Video today.
